The Westchester Fire Department will be accepting applications for the position of entry-level firefighter as of February 15, 2018. Applications are available at until March 29, 2018.  The application deadline is March 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM.  You must provide written proof that you meet the following minimum requirements and pay any required fees:

  • $25 non-refundable application fee;
  • U.S. Citizen;
  • Valid driver’s license (valid Illinois driver’s license due at time of hire);
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) AND either (i) a certified copy of a transcript confirming successful completion of at least thirty (30) semester hours (or their equivalent in quarter or trimester hours) of credit from an accredited college or university listed in the United States Department of Education database or (ii) proof of at least twelve (12) months of active service in any branch of the United States military service (army, navy, air force or coast guard) with an honorable discharge or medical discharge;
  • Basic Operations Firefighter Certification (or the updated equivalent classification) or Firefighter II Certification (or the updated equivalent classification) from the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal;
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at time of application deadline (3/29/18), unless exempt by applicable state law;
  • Must provide proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency within 12 months immediately prior to written exam date (4/28/18);

CPAT and Ladder Climb Certifications may be obtained at the following local agencies:

    • NIPSTA (Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy) – Glenview, IL – or 847-998-8090.
  • SUFD (Southwest United Fire Districts) – Darien, IL – or 708-579-2064.
  • Valid Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic license at time of hire.


Each applicant is required to complete, sign and submit an application form and all related documents that are part of the application process as required by the Rules and Regulations of the Westchester Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (Rules).


Preference points will be awarded per applicable state law and the Rules.


The number of complete applications that shall be received and processed for this examination is limited to a maximum of one hundred and fifty (150) applications. Be sure to complete and confirm your online application ASAP to ensure your application is accepted. The application deadline will be on 3/29/18 at 4:00 PM OR once 150 online applications have been confirmed; whichever occurs first.


All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

Written Exam/Orientation Information:

 Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Sign-in begins at 8:00 a.m. Please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) to sign-in. Late arrivals will not be permitted. All electronic communication devices must be left in your vehicle and will not be permitted into the testing area. Testing will take place in Westchester, IL. The exact testing location will be provided to eligible candidates prior to the exam date.

Test day will consist of two exams: the National Firefighter Selection Inventory (NFSI), and the Integrity Inventory. Study materials for the NFSI can be purchased online at

Water Operator


The Broadview Westchester Joint Water Agency (BWJWA) is located in Broadview, Illinois, approximately 13 miles west of Chicago. The Water Operator reports to the Water Superintendent under general direction, omitors and operates BWJWA's treatment processes and distribution system to ensure compliance with regulations and operational goals and performs the daily operations related to it. This is a full-time position requiring response to call-outs; after hours, on weekends, and holidays as required. The Water Operator: is responsible for tracking, purchasing, and accountability for maintaining the proper water treatment chemical inventory; reading meters; monitoring of data contained in the reports for compliance with EPA and IEPA regulatory requirements; performs any other job related duties as required. Minimum job requirements include: possession of an Illinois Class C Water Operator License or must obtain a Class C Water License within 12 months of employment, possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License, CDL not required but it is preferred, minimum 2 years experience in the water industry; experience in electrical field to include knowledge and use of electrical and electronic equipment, SCADA systems, electrical test equipment and troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and air operated equipment a plus. Village Manager - Westchester, IL


The Village of Westchester, IL  (pop. 16,824), is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Village Manager. Westchester is located approximately 15 miles from downtown Chicago. Westchester is an ideal place to live, play, work and conduct business. Westchester provides convenient access to the greater Chicagoland area and is a hub of vehicular, air, rail, and public transportation. Westchester is within minutes of I-290, I-294, and I-90. The Village Manager will lead the Village's 87 full-time employees by providing a full range of municipal services to Westchester residents. Departments include Police, Fire, Public Works, Finance, Community/Economic Development, and Administration. The Village Manager is appointed by the Mayor and the six member Board of Trustees. The most recent Village Manager served the community for eight years.


Candidates must possess excellent oral and written skills and a strong background in public finance. Candidates must also have demonstrated success in leading municipal operations with a collaborative, team-oriented style.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, planning, business or a related field. A master's degree or other advanced degree is strongly desired along with 5-7 years increasingly responsible experience in municipal management.

Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
