Police Department announces New Program:  “Alive at 25”
“Alive at 25” This highly interactive four-hour program encourages young drivers between the ages of 16 and 24 to take responsibility for their driving behavior. Vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of death for young adults in this age group. The National Safety Council, a leader in driver improvement training for more than 40 years, developed DDC-Alive at 25 to specifically target drivers in this age group.

More program details here...

Alive at 25 teaches young adults that:

  • People in their age group are more likely to be hurt or killed in a vehicle crash.

  • People in their age group are more likely to be hurt or killed in a vehicle crash.

  • Inexperience, distractions, and peer pressure cause unique driving hazards

  • Speeding, alcohol, and "party drugs" greatly increase their risk of injury or death.

  • As a driver or passenger, they can greatly reduce their risk by taking control.

  • Committing to changing their driving behavior makes personal, legal and financial sense.

“Alive at 25” Parent Program”
Developed specifically for parents of new drivers, this innovative 3-hour course helps parents partner with their teens to help them become safe, responsible, and defensive drivers.

Programs will begin Spring 2008, look for future announcements.

Questions about the program, the Illinois Graduated Drivers License, or general questions concerning teen driving can be directed to a community relations officer at AliveAt25@westchesterpolice.com. For additional drivers license inquiries visit,  wwwCyberDriveIllinois.com

Police Programs

The Mission of the Westchester Police Department is to work with all citizens to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property, and promote individual responsibility and community commitment.  Our department's goal is to assist citizens in preventing crime.  Our focus is to serve the community at large, improve community awareness, and to continue citizen education by offering tips on how not to be a victim of a crime.

Department Structure - The Westchester Police Department consists of 52 individuals.

  • Sworn Police Officers - 1 Chief, 2 Lieutenants, 8 Sergeants, and 23 Patrol Officers

  • Civilian Employees - 8 (911) Telecommunication Officers and 1 supervisor, 4 Records Clerks, and 1 Community Service Officer

Divisions - The police department is broken down into three divisions.  The divisions are Patrol, Investigation, and Administrative.  The Patrol Division is responsible for maintaining high visibility and often rapid response to calls for service, as well as the aggressive/preventive patrolling of the Village streets.  Marked squad cars and additional police bike patrol units during the summer months continue to keep a watchful eye on us all.

  • The Investigative Division handles the follow-up investigations of all criminal incidents within the village, including juvenile matters and warrant control service.

  • The Administrative Division handles the police/fire radio telecommunications, department training, records department, public information, crossing guards and police equipment.
