Living With Wildlife
Many mammals, including coyotes and skunks, are protected under the Illinois Wildlife Code (520 ILCS 5/2.2). They are classified as furbearers, which means there are specific regulations governing their hunting and trapping. It is illegal to harm or kill these animals without an animal removal permit authorized by an IDNR District Wildlife Biologist in urban areas and/or a hunting or trapping license in rural areas.
